That’s because keywords are the first things, where you should start learning when it comes to optimizing your blog for SEO.


Let’s start with the basics…


Keyword: This is the specific phrase or words which is driving traffic to a specific URL or a website. When we are doing SEO, these are the words, we “target”, so we often call it the “targeted keywords”.

There are two types of keywords

Short Tail Keywords: Short keywords that are 1-3 words.

Long Tail Keywords: More specific keywords that are usually three words or longer.

Note: All words and phrases qualify as “keywords” when they have a minimum amount of searches (volume) in a month.

Long tail keywords are more profitable because here you will get more targeted traffic by using long tail keywords and increase your chances of ranking on the first page.
Importance of keywords

Now that you understand the basics of keywords, let’s dive into it a little deeper.
When we optimize a blog post or a web page, there we have the option to define our target keywords. This is the keyword known as a Meta keyword.

In 2012, it was important to specify meta keywords, but after 2017, it’s not become any use. Now the search engine algorithms have become so smarter; they auto-detect your keywords according to the keyword density and rank pages automatically.

For example, for this post, some meta keywords could be: “keyword tips, SEO, keyword research”, and so on.

Now, anyone looking for “keyword tips” would land on this page, not see anything of use, and leave the website, that’s increasing the bounce rate of the website. And you know very well It’s not good for any website and it’s not good for the user also.

Different Ways to Search Keywords

Keyword research is the process of finding the right keyword for your post. This step is important if you wish to grow your blog/website in a short span of time and ultimately make money. There are various ways by which you can find keywords and do keyword research.

SEMrush: will show you which keywords to focus on. By showing you a particular keyword’s percentage of difficulty, this tool also helps you estimate how easy it would be to analyze your competitors’ organic positions in the Google or Bing top 100.

Keyword Planner: It’s the Official Google tool for keyword research. As Google is the biggest search engine. So whereas I think Google has enough data to give you an accurate picture of websites’ organic search traffic.
Ahrefs: Want to see the keywords your competitors are ranking for in search and how they get much traffic for those keywords?
Just enter the websites in Site Explorer and browse the “Organic search” section of the lists.
Ahrefs has over 130 million keywords, so it has enough coverage to give you an accurate picture of websites’ organic search traffic.

LongTailPro: Great tool to use to find long tail keywords. Here you can get lots of long tail keywords that bring much traffic for your competitor’s website and can also work for you.
