The first win of the year for PV Sindhu, BWF World Tour Final, was no less than a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day. After all the questionings and doubts that were hurled at Sindhu, she finally took a sigh after winning her first gold and also beating her longtime rival, Nozomi Okuhara.

Undoubtedly, the title brought her a lot of perks and opened many doors of opportunities for her. Hype in earnings is one of them. After winning the title, PV Sindhu bagged her biggest single-week paycheque, that of USD 1.2 lakh (Rs. 86.30 lakh approximately).

Before this, she had lost seven finals this year –India Open, Commonwealth Games, Thailand Open, World Championships, and Asian Games. But after this victory, her total earnings has reached Rs 4.22 crores in 2018.

So directly answering your question, yes, PV Sindhu, adding her tournaments and endorsements earnings, is earn9ing more than some Indian cricketers, “save Virat Kohli and Dhoni”, as commented by Tuhin Mishra, Sindhu’s endorsement manager. (Source: indianexpress.com)

Defeating the no. 5 positioned Japanese Okuhara, has shifted Sindhu’s position from number 6 to number 3 in the rankings. The Indian player now is the third highest earning women tennis player in Asia, after Tai Tzu Ying (Rs 7.98 crore) and Ratchanok Intanon (Rs 4.90 crore).

Despite her full focus on making a mark internationally, however, Sindhu couldn’t make it to the list of World’s top 10 most marketable athletes. According to Forbes, Sindhu’s combined earnings until this tournament adds up to Rs. 61.13 crore, making her the 7th highest earning sportswoman in the world.

As for the Indian cricket players, Sindhu is earning higher at least than the B and lower grade players which include the likes of Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, etc, whose earnings are as high as 3 crores. In this regard, Sindhu is earning as much as Indian cricketers of Grade A and A+.
