In addition to the separatist-controlled areas, Russia annexed Crimea, a region that was formerly part of Ukraine, in March 2014. As a result, Ukraine lost control of the Crimean Peninsula, which is located in the Black Sea.
The exact extent of the territory covered by Russia in Ukraine during the war is difficult to determine, as the situation on the ground has been fluid and dynamic. However, as of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, the separatist-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and the annexed Crimea region remain outside of Ukrainian control.
