Should Aamir Khan, Gavaskar and Kapil Dev visit Pakistan for Imran Khan’s oath ceremony?

Satirically, Imran Khan inviting people from Indian to his oath ceremony in Pakistan isn’t a very good sign. This is how PM Narendra Modi started his journey with the neighbors. And look at the place where India and Pakistan stand today—more distant than ever since independence. Imran Khan is possibly going the same way as PM Narendra Modi!

BUT on a serious note though, it’s a nice gesture on Imran Khan’s part to invite prominent Indian personalities to his oath ceremony in Pakistan. According to reports, he has invited former Indian cricketers—Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Actor Aamir Khan, too, has received the invitation.

NOTE: he hasn’t yet invited PM Modi. And it’s very unlikely that he would do that given the occasion is to be held on August 11. Had he done that, it would have stirred global attention, even winning him compliments, like it did for our Prime Minister when he invited then Pak-PM Nawaz Sharif!

Till now, only Sidhu has accepted the invitation and will likely attend the oath ceremony in Pakistan. Response from other invitees is still awaiting. It’s likely the rest won’t attend the ceremony, unless they don’t fear being called “anti-national”. And their absence can turn up to be a big focal vocal point for Imran Khan in what he says about India in his term. You can bet him say how he tried to mend distance between India and Pakistan with a humble gesture, but it is Indians who didn’t take the step to match the pace. Yes, the same tactic that PM Narendra Modi has been employing for over 4 years now.

All in all, Indian guests to his oath ceremony in Pakistan is the finest example of Imran Khan’s showmanship, which can even rival that of PM Modi’s. Regardless of his intentions behind, at least he’s taking the step. It’s important India walks at the same pace.

Hopefully, with a new government in Pakistan and a fresh face as the Prime Minister, a lot will change between India and Pakistan. It can possibly be a turning point in the relationship between the two countries if both act sensibly.
