In the world full of social media channels spreading a rumor is very easy and this news has been in social media for days that your 10-digit number will change to 13-digit number but there will be no such 13-digit numbers that exist for customers. As per the reports, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has denied such rumors and said that they are not going to implement a 13-digit mobile number system for consumers.
On Wednesday, the DoT has dismissed all such rubbish reports that has been creating a lot of hype and confusion on news websites and social media and they ordered all telecom service providers to issue an official statement to their users to deny the 10-digit mobile numbers will be shifted to 13-digit mobile numbers.
Actually, a few media houses misinterpreted a DoT (Department of Telecommunication) order for machine to machine or M2M 10-digit numbers will convert to 13-digit numbers. M2M numbers are those numbers that are used for SIMs in devices like swipe machines, cars, electricity meters etc.
Officials from Bharti Airtel, India's largest telecom service provider, Reliance Jio and telecom industry body COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) announced that the normal mobile numbers will not be affected by this system.
