DRS, whose full-form is Decision Review System, is more famously known as “Dhoni Review System”, and rightly so. This is because, the reviews given by Mahendra Singh Dhoni are 100% better than the umpires themselves. The most recent example is the Sunday Asia cup match between India and Pakistan. Imam Ul-Haq getting a wicket on Yajuvendra Chahal’s ball was the result of Dhoni’s review only. Dhoni saw Imam Ul-Haq getting out, when the umpire could not. Thanks to Dhoni, India got its first wicket in the match which was very important for the team.
And this is not the first time that Dhoni’s review has proved to be useful for match. You must not have forgotten the incident in IPL when Dhoni played for Pune Supergiants and all their appeals in from of the umpire for declaring Mumbai Indians’ Polard out were denied. It was Dhoni who appealed for DRC asking the third umpire review. The results favored the appeals of Pune Supergiants and Dhoni’s decision proved to be more accurate than that of the umpire.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni really has a hawk’s eye. He should be considered for the post of umpire and senior umpire in future so that his attentive gaze can prove to be useful for cricket.
