Absolute poverty is a condition where individuals or households lack the basic necessities of life, such as food, shelter, clothing, and access to basic healthcare and education. It is a measure of poverty that is based on a fixed standard of living, and it does not take into account the relative standards of living or the social and economic circumstances of a particular society.

The World Bank defines absolute poverty as living on less than $1.90 per day, based on 2011 purchasing power parity. This means that individuals or households living on less than this amount per day are considered to be living in absolute poverty. However, this definition is not universally accepted, and other organizations may use different criteria to define absolute poverty.
