Toronto, among all, is the city with can be said practicing equality in all its definitions. Same is true with Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
TIFF’s “share her journey”, is a program which promotes the increase in the participation of women in film industry, both on-screen and behind the screen.
Maxim Bailey is the organizer of the program, and she remarks, “Women see things from a different lens. Here at TIFF, we are doing everything we can to extend that lens.” (Source: Indian Express)
According to the reports, Bailey comments on the sexism that lingers on Hollywood and how the program is trying to turn the tables since a long time. So after the campaigns like Me too and Time’s Up, the “share her journey” program aims at diminishing the imbalance of gender in Hollywood by increasing women participation.
While some male directors welcome the program, some women working in the industry see it a problem when they are termed as “female directors”. Overall, the program seems a positive step towards female contribution in films.
