August among many days and occasions, brings the memories of one of the most tragic incidents in the history of mankind. On the 6th of August, in 1945, USA after getting the consent from United Kingdom dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima.

The aircraft which was used to drop the bomb was flown by Enola *****, and it was nick-named “little boy”. A second atomic bomb was dropped by the Allies three days later on another Japanese city, Nagasaki. And we all are familiar with the rest of the history.

“Little boy” was the B-29, Uranium gun-type bomb which became one of the very first examples of the devastation that nuclear science is capable of. We all know that the repercussions of the bomb and the fumes emitted from it were not only physical, but biological as well. Children till decades were born with biological complexities in Hiroshima. The 90,000 buildings in the city were reduced to 28,000 and out of city’s 200 doctors, only 20 were left alive, or capable of treating others.

It is to commemorate this tragic day and its implications that Hiroshima Day is celebrated, and this year the tragedy got 73 years old. After the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered to the Allies, thus ending the Second World War officially and establishing a paradoxical, global peace.

There is an Atomic Bomb dome in Hiroshima, which was left as it is after the bomb explosion as a memorial. The site was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1996.
