Some 20, 30 years back we were all living happier and healthier than now. While travelling in train we used to drink from any station pipe, we used to eat any food at any time. Nothing happened to us. Not even a stomach upset. But now we are drinking packaged water, eating only healthy foods cooked in our kitchen, taking plenty of fibers, never misses salad and fruits in our diets, taking all the super foods like green vegetables, nuts and supplements. Lest we are more prone and vulnerable to diseases now then earlier.
Now while talking about color of the food, currently researchers are emphasizing more on colorful natural foods and healthy way of eating. Like brown rice, brown sugar, brown bread etc. Brown rice is better than white rice because of the bran, which is fiber in it. But the carbohydrate content in both the rice is same amount only.
Likewise some dieticians are giving importance to brown sugar rather than refined white sugar. Of course brown sugar tastes great and looks good because of the molasses in it. The manufacturers boil the sugar cane juice and filtered it to make coarse brown sugar. Some 5% to 10% molasses are there in brown sugar, which is raw and natural. It contains minerals. But the quantity of minerals like iron in 1 teaspoon of brown sugar is 0.02 milligram only. On the other hand the minimum amount of iron needed for a man is 8 milligram and woman it is 18 mg per day. Calorie wise also both are same.
Some dishes like Kheer, Mishti doi, Rabdi tastes delicious when you add brown sugar in it. If it is for taste then you can go ahead. But on health grounds, both refined white sugar and brown sugar are same only.
