Sentinelese tribe is believed to have settled in the Andaman Islands some 60,000 years ago and its total population is estimated to be between 40 to 500 people.
This tribe is as dangerous as it is interesting to know. Due to this, it has been left undisturbed by various anthropologists and researchers. Even the Indian government has decided to leave it isolated, as it is.

Since no direct research has taken place there, they are conjectured to go without any proper clothing and are completely isolated from the modern and contemporary lifestyle.
Historically, all the attempts made until now to contact, reach, or bring them to the mainstream civilization have gone awry as the tribe is speculated to be not good with outsiders. The island, due to the violent attacks happened there, was even left undisturbed by the colonizers when they came to India.

Once an attempt to know them was made in 1880 by a British colonel. When the colonel reached the island, he found nothing but abandoned village. Going deep into woods, he found some tribal people and brought them forcefully with him. Due to the lack of immunity to the foreign germs and viruses, the tribal people fell sick and died, and the children were returned to the island.
In 1960, another attempt was made by an Indian anthropologist, Triloknath Pandit but it failed with the same results. A few years later, a documentary filmmaker was reported to have been shot with an arrow as he was trying to visit the Island for his movie on Sentinelese tribe.

A ship named Primrose was wrecked near the island and the people in it were also attacked, but later saved by the Indian Navy. Among the long list of “attacked” are also the government helicopters who came to look after the tribe after the 2004 Tsunami, and two fishermen who neared the island mistakenly in a drunk state. Since then, the Indian government has created a 3-mile execution zone around the island in the Bay of Bengal.

The Indian government has finally decided to leave the tribe undisturbed, isolated, and sovereign for everyone’s well-being. Activists, though, have a problem with the tourists and Safaris which may threaten the tribe and themselves get threatened too.
