As of today, we can see that Lionel Messi clearly has a better record than Cristiano Ronaldo in the recent past. Even though, when we look at the statistics and see that Messi has scored 804 goals in 1020 games throughout his career, and in contrast to that, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 834 goals in 1159 games, it seems that Ronaldo is the all time GOAT as he has more goals than Messi. However, if we look at their records in the more recent times, we see a total contrast. Since the 1st of January, 2020, Messi has been able to score 88 goals, whereas, even though it is a small margin, Ronaldo has been able to score just the 84 goals since 2020. In addition, if we look at the recently passed World Cup, Messi is the second-highest goal scorer, with 7 goals and Ronaldo on the other hand, had just scored the single goal throughout the tournament, clearly indicating that he has not had the best of tournaments and was out of form. Also, Messi and his team, Argentina, went onto win the World Cup last year. As for awards, Messi has one a whopping total of 7 Ballon d'Ors throughout his career, however, Ronaldo has just got the 5 Ballon d'Ors to his name. All stats considered, we can safely conclude that Lionel Messi is a far better player than Cristiano Ronaldo.
