Tulsidas was asked by the Mughal Emperor Akbar to show his special powers in the royal court. This happened because people like Khan-e-Khana Rahim and Toder Mal had told Akbar a lot of good things about Tulsidas. But when Tulsidas said no, he was put in jail. While he was in jail, Tulsidas began to write the Hanuman Chalisa prayer. It's said that after 40 days, a lot of big monkeys surrounded the city of Fatehpur Sikri. They even got into the palace and hurt the guards. Things got so messy that someone told Akbar to let Tulsidas go. As soon as Tulsidas was set free, the monkeys left, which showed that Lord Hanuman had come to help Tulsidas.
