In the times that we live in, this question has unimaginable relevance. Today, the meaning of true worship has been changed, so much so that it has more to do with fanaticism than with bringing peace to mind, body, and soul.
People today have made the worshiping of god much like a theatrical performance. They don’t do it for inner peace anymore. They do it for the outer showoff. Likewise, people remember god only when they are distressed. No one actually worships these days unselfishly. We all have our personal motive behind worshiping god. We have made worshiping god synonymous to asking something from god that we want.
Greed is a part of human nature and this is what makes us distressed or sad. You’ll never tire away from asking more and more from god and will keep calling it worship. That’s why you are always sad, because you are always in need of something or the other. It has more to do with human psychology than with astrology.
Worship means concentration and meditation towards, and of a name which brings inner peace to you. If you are not happy and peaceful, that means you are not worshiping any god or goddess. You are worshiping your own wants and needs, which will never be fulfilled. Satisfaction, which is the key to happiness, comes only from within. And to be satisfied, you need to cease to be materialistic and denounce all your desires. That’s when you’ll not be asking god for anything. That’s when you’ll attain peace, satisfaction, and hence happiness.
