After IITs, it’s IIM Kozhikode, which is allowing the supernumerary seats for women candidates in their top postgraduate course of management. IIMK completed 22 years this August, and these supernumerary seats for women will be offered from the next academic year.
These seats, according to IIMK, are for the candidates with exceptional potential of leadership. The applications and the selection process for these 60 additional seats will be done separately and the already existing seats will not be affected by these in any way.
The prevailing reservation norms will remain unaffected as well.
The step of creation of supernumerary seats for women is taken to increase the participation of women in leadership roles. Earlier, the admissions of women in IIMK scripted history with their number going up to 30% in 2010, and 54% in 2013. This was later adopted by other IIMs, seeing the bettering of performance in placements.
