Visiting Red Fort or Laal Quila while on Dilli Darshan is as inevitable as visiting Taj Mahal when you go to Agra. And this is not the only similarity which these two Mughal architectures have. To count some more: Both Laal Quila and Taj Mahal were built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan; both of the monuments are situated on the banks of river Yamuna; and both were designed by the same architect, Ustad ahmad Lahauri.
Now focusing on Red Fort alone, if
Taj Mahal is a wonder in the world, Red Fort is one the most wonderful monuments of not only Delhi, but India. Its importance is just not restricted to India’s Prime Minister giving long speeches and addressing the nation from there every Independence Day. Red Fort has much more to it.
Red Fort or Laal Quila is one of the main highlights of Purani Dilli or the Old Delhi. The palace of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Red Fort is one of the most visibly perfect examples of the creativity and innovation of Mughal architecture. And Delhi’s tour, or even its description is incomplete unless we mention the beautiful Mughal monuments we have here.
Being the palace of the last Mughal emperor, and the site of the Independence Day speech of PM, Red Fort has its own political and historical importance. Apart from this, it’s a beautiful Red-Sandstone building, with alluring gardens, and a heart-warming vicinity. With a trip to Red Fort, you also get to visit Jama Masjid, which is not very far from it and enjoy the delicious street food of Chandni Chowk. All these facts make Red Fort a must visit site for Dilli Darshan.
