The navratri is celebrated when goddess Durga defeted Mahishasura it known as victory of good over evil.Navratri signifies the nine avatars of goddess Durga. In india many people do fast till nine days and break their fast on ninth day after completing puja and rituals.Here are the nine avatars of goddess Durga are as follows:

Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

These are the nine avatars of goddess Durga.Each day of navratri is dedicated to one avatars of goddess Durga.

We all know that there are nine forms of Goddess Durga.Worshipping all the nine forms of Durga in nine nights is known as Navratri.On the tenth day Lord Rama victory over Ravana is celebrated as Dusshera.Navratri is related with the nine days of battle of Maa Durga with the demon Mahishasur.It celebrates the victory of good over evil.During Navratri the devotees of Maa Durga do not consume meat,egg, onion,garlic & keep fasting for nine days.
