After being in the severe' category for four days in a row, Delhi's air quality improved slightly to very poor' on Sunday, with an overall air quality index of 386. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was 499 on Saturday, the worst reading of the season thus far. On Friday, the AQI was 471, up from 411 on Thursday. For the uninitiated, an AQI of zero to 50 is regarded as 'excellent,' 51 to 100 as satisfactory,' 101 to 200 as moderate,' 201 to 300 as 'poor,' 301 to 400 as very poor,' and 401 to 500 as severe.'

The Supreme Court took a serious look at the high air pollution in Delhi-NCR on Saturday, suggesting that the government proclaim a two-day lockdown if necessary to bring the levels down, which are caused by stubble burning, automobiles, firecrackers, factories, and dust.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court proposed yesterday that a lockdown be imposed in the capital city to get the situation under control, citing the deteriorating air quality as a severe concern.
